Heatmap

This content item displays data in a grid with each cell in the grid color coded based on the value it represents. Configure it with one data item to visualize values over a time span. Configure it with multiple data items to visualize the correlation of their values according to Spearman's rank correlation coefficient.

Configure the following properties for this content item:

  • In the Basic tab:

    • Follow asset context - When this is enabled:

      • If this content is in a dashboard, it uses the dashboard's asset context as the asset for asset stream ref data. For details, see Create a new dashboard.

      • If this content is in an experience, it uses the navigation item's asset reference as the asset for asset stream ref data. For details, see the Add content to a pane section in Add content to panes in your navigation items.

This property only affects asset stream ref data; it has no effect if the content item is configured with stream data.

    • Follow time context - When this is enabled:

      • If this content is in a dashboard, it uses the dashboard's time context as the time range for the data it displays. For details, see Create a new dashboard.

      • If this content is in an experience, it uses the time selected in the time selector content item as the time range for the data it displays. For details, see Add a time selector.

    • Time - If Follow time context is disabled, select the time range for the data displayed in the content item.

    • Add Data - Select the data item or items to include in this content item. The behavior of the chart depends on whether one item or multiple items are selected.

      • If one data item is selected, the chart visualizes its values over selected time intervals to identify notable or outlying periods.

      • If using multiple data items, the chart visualizes the correlation between the values of the selected items. The correlation is calculated using Spearman's rank correlation coefficient.

Spearman's rank correlation coefficient measures correlation on a range of -1 to 1. 1 indicates a perfect positive relationship: when one data item increases, the other increases. -1 indicates a perfect negative relationship: when one data item increases, the other decreases. 0 indicates no relationship.

You can search for data items by name, by filter, or both.

      • To search by name, enter a value in the Search for data field.

      • To apply filters, select Filter icon to view and select filters. Select Back icon to accept your selected filters and return to the previous search panel.

      • To add a single data item, select that item's name. To add multiple data items, check the box for each, then select Add data.

      • For stream or asset stream references, selecting the item’s name expands its list of properties and selects Value only. Selecting the checkbox expands the list and selects all properties. Select or clear properties as needed.

    • X axis and Y axis - If one data item is selected, select the time intervals for the X and Y axes.

  • In the Advanced tab:

    • Title - The title that displays for this content item. This property is only available in grid dashboards; content items do not display titles in canvas dashboards or experiences.

    • Statistics - The metric to use for the data. See Understand statistic options for details.

    • Time slice - This option is available if the heatmap is configured with multiple data items. Data items are compared to determine if they both increased, both decreased, or differed within the time slice. The measurement from each time slice is used to calculate the overall correlation between data items.

      Select a time slice option:

      • Auto - Automatically choose an interval appropriate to the time range

      • Custom - Manually select the Interval.

    • Color bar - The orientation of the color bar.

    • Color bar title - The title of the color bar.

    • Scale - The minimum and maximum values for the color range.

    • Color bar style - Select the color style for the heatmap:

      • Gradient - Colors are smoothly interpolated between stops.

      • Divergent - Colors are not interpolated between stops; all values within a stop are represented by that stop's color.

    • Colors - The color gradient displayed in the heatmap. The 0% stop is the color of the minimum value, and the 100% stop is the color of the maximum value. Add stops to add additional colors.

Values below the minimum use the minimum value (0% stop) color. Values above the maximum use the maximum value (100% stop) color.

Edit, hide, or remove data

After a stream or asset stream ref has been added to the content item, use the buttons to the right of it to edit, hide, or remove it.
