Entities storage

Entities are stored within a CONNECT data store and are accessible via the Entity Management data service. Entities are modular, contextual representations of industrial objects, such as assets, reference data, documents, and visualizations. An entity is modular, composed of discrete components derived from types (such as a pump, diffusion pump, P&ID, or Bill of Materials), and is capable of being connected to other industrial data types through relationships.

Entities interact with several services and APIs:

  • The Type Management service supports the creation and management of types, which are defined sets of properties and relationships that serve as templates for creating and classifying entities, events, and streams. Types are managed with the Type Management API.

  • Entities are ingressed via the Entity Management API.

  • The Knowledge Graph service interacts with entities, streams, and events, providing a navigable graphical representation of the data and relationships in the CONNECT portal.

  • The Knowledge Graph GraphQL API allows users to query the ingressed knowledge graph data. It is a single point of contact for entity, stream, and event data.

Entities, combined with streams and events, provides a flexible and extensible web of information for industrial data via robust relationships between events, assets, document, streams, and more, all collected at your fingertips.
