Transition to PI to CONNECT agent for continuous data streaming

Completed by: CONNECT operator or administrator, PI Server administrator, or both.

After completing the PI bulk import, install and configure the PI to CONNECT agent to stream updates to the target CONNECT data store.

The CONNECT operator or administrator and the PI Server administrator typically complete this task together. Either role can complete it if they have the required access and permissions.

Prerequisites

  • The PI bulk import detailed in Create and monitor PI bulk import is complete.

  • Access to install and configure PI to CONNECT Agent on the PI Server.

  • Required CONNECT permissions to manage ongoing PI to CONNECT data flow.

  • Artifacts and information provided by the CONNECT operator:

    • Confirmation that the PI bulk import completed successfully.

    • The name of the target CONNECT data store.

    • Confirmation that the expected PI streams and stream types are available.

    • Any notes about the imported historical range, data validation, or Azure file share cleanup.

To transition to PI to CONNECT agent for ongoing updates

Identify the end date and time of the PI Archive file that contains the latest data in the imported range. Configure the PI to CONNECT agent to start streaming from the point immediately after that archive ends, not from the time the import completes. For example, if the transferred archives cover July 1, 2020, through June 25, 2024, configure streaming to start on June 26, 2024.

Handoff to the CONNECT operator

This workflow ends after the PI to CONNECT agent is installed and configured. Confirm the following information with the CONNECT operator or administrator:

  • Confirmation that the agent is installed and configured.

  • The end date and time of the PI Archive file that contains the latest data in the imported range, and the date and time configured as the agent's streaming start point.

  • The target CONNECT data store receiving ongoing updates.

  • The PI Server and data points included in the ongoing update configuration.

  • Confirmation that the agent is connected and sending current updates, according to the PI to CONNECT agent documentation.
