Expectations and limitations
This release of CONNECT is available to selected customers.
New features and enhancements
The CONNECT early access experience introduces enhancements and foundational changes that distinguish it from the CONNECT original experience.
Stream Management

Weighted Total Summary for Stream Management API: This CONNECT release adds a new calculated summary for Stream Management: WeightedTotal. It calculates the time-weighted integral of a signal over the requested interval:
WeightedTotal = WeightedMean × duration_in_seconds
WeightedTotal follows the same boundary and interpolation behavior as WeightedMean. Values must be expressed on a per-second basis; values using another time basis must be converted before requesting this summary.
This summary is useful for calculating accumulated quantities, such as energy, volume, or mass, from rate-based signals. Unlike Total, which sums event values, WeightedTotal accounts for the duration represented by each value.
Available endpoints
The WeightedTotal summary type can be requested through the following summary endpoints by including it in the request's summaries parameter. The parameter accepts summary types from the SdsSummaryType enumeration, which now includes WeightedTotal.

Virtual Tables

Share integrations: In addition to continuing support for existing share types, this CONNECT release adds a new integration to establish shares for virtual tables:
Existing integrations:

Databricks: Virtual tables can be shared with Databricks.

OpenSharing: Virtual tables can be shared through the token-based OpenSharing.

Iceberg catalog: Virtual tables can be shared through the token-based Iceberg catalog.
New integration:

Snowflake: Virtual tables can now be shared with Snowflake through OIDC federation.

Data Collection

PI bulk import: Copy large volumes of historical PI Server archive data (a year or more) into CONNECT before setting up continuous data streaming with the PI to CONNECT agent. The import process transfers the selected archive files from your Azure file share into a CONNECT data store.
The import creates streams for the imported PI tags, creates stream types for their data, and imports historical tags from the selected archives. You can import directly to a site or to a staging area for later site association and monitor the import status in CONNECT. For more information, see PI bulk import.
Theme Switching

Enhanced theme switching: You can now select the from Light theme, Dark theme, or System theme in the CONNECT interface. System theme is the default.

Visualization

Canvas editing improvements: New editing tools are available to make editing canvas content easier and faster. Improvements include:

Item selection and arrangement

Undo/Redo

Multi-select: Select one or more items by dragging your mouse across the canvas. Select all eligible items on the current canvas (see keyboard combinations below).

Keyboard shortcuts

Arrange, delete, duplicate, and align items.

Select all eligible items on the current canvas: Ctrl+A (Windows) or Cmd+A (Mac), when the canvas editor is active.

Content duplication

Text or image elements.

A group containing graphics, widgets, text, and images.

Layout and property adjustment

Set the position and size of canvas items, including widgets.

Update shared settings for selected text, images, symbols, and shapes.

Configure divider properties for split panes in experiences: When you split a pane in an experience, you can now configure the properties that control the appearance of the divider.

Import custom industrial graphics for use in visualizations: You can now import industrial graphics created with the Industrial Graphic Editor in AVEVA System Platform 2023 or later or standalone AVEVA InTouch HMI 2023 or later into CONNECT and add them to visualizations. This lets you extend your on-premises industrial graphics to your web-based environment. For more information, see Industrial graphics in CONNECT.

Lines in column chart: Data can now be represented as both lines and columns in the Column Chart content item. Additional advanced configuration options are implemented to support this feature.
This applies to the column chart in the Visualization content category; it does not apply to the column chart in the Event Visualization content category.

Configure decimal places for data stream tooltip values: You can now set the number of decimal places shown in tooltip values for each data stream in the following content items in the Visualization content category:

Configure decimal places for the Last Value on the Status Board: You can now set the number of decimal places shown in the Last Value column on the Status Board content item.

New content items: New content items are available. These provide more options for visualizing data. All these content items are in the Visualization content category.

Heatmap: Displays data in a grid with each cell color coded based on the value it represents. Visualizes values over a time span for one data item or the correlation between multiple data items.

Histogram: Shows how numeric values are distributed across their range, providing a view of data’s density across different ranges and the overall shape of the distribution.
-
Sankey diagram: Shows the flow of data between nodes. It is typically used to show flow, movement, or change, with each node representing a different stage or entity.
-
Known issues
While the CONNECT early access experience is functionally robust, several known limitations may impact the user experience.
-
Case - N/A (Defect - 5202296) - Properties pane may load slowly for industrial graphics with many custom properties: If an industrial graphic has more than 100 custom properties, the Properties pane may take a long time to load after you select the graphic on a dashboard or experience. As a workaround, use 100 or fewer custom properties per industrial graphic.

Case - N/A (Defect - N/A) - Embedded industrial graphic updates might not appear after export: If you modify or rename an embedded graphic in Platform Server IDE and export the parent graphic without validating it first, CONNECT might show an outdated thumbnail and the embedded content might appear as empty space in a visualization. As a workaround, validate the parent graphic in System Platform IDE, export the .aaPKG file, and then import it into CONNECT.

Case - N/A (Defect - 5208699) - Missing embedded industrial graphics cause dashboard and experience failures: If an imported industrial graphic references a missing embedded graphic, it can stop a canvas dashboard from rendering and can cause an experience pane to remain blank with no content properties. This can occur when an embedded graphic is renamed and the parent graphic is not validated before export. Use the following workarounds:

If the embedded graphic was never imported to CONNECT or was deleted:

Import or re-import the embedded graphic into the CONNECT content library.

Load the parent graphic again.
-
-
If the embedded graphic was renamed in System Platform IDE:
-
Validate the parent graphic in System Platform IDE.
-
Check the parent graphic’s thumbnail and embedded graphic references.
-
Export the correct parent graphic as an .aaPKG package.
-
Import the correct package into the CONNECT content library.

Load the parent industrial graphic again.

1D/2D/3D data not yet available: 1D, 2D, and 3D data is not yet available in CONNECT early access experience. This affects the following areas:

Missing data indicators in line charts: Line charts in the Visualization content category use an alternate line style to indicate missing data. The alternate style appears when a period has a null value or when there is no data after the last valid value. When you hover over the alternate segment, the tooltip shows the last known valid value and its timestamp. This helps you distinguish measured values from missing data.

Map enhancements: The Map content item includes the following new options for visualizing your data on the map:

Location history: A location history line can now be displayed for assets with dynamic locations.

Map layers: Add rich geographic context to your maps. Define points, lines, polygons, or GeoJSON feature collections as map layers. Link map layers to assets so they display automatically when the assets are added to the map.

Expanded statistics options for non-graphic content items: For non-graphic content items that include the Statistic property, additional statistics options are now available. For details, see Understand statistic options.

CONNECT Cloud Storage region update: Canada and Japan are now available as CONNECT Cloud Storage regions. For details, see CONNECT Cloud Storage.
Known issues
While the CONNECT early access experience is functionally robust, several known limitations may impact the user experience.

Weighted summary statistics options do not work in content items: The Weighted Mean, Weighted Standard Deviation, and Weighted Population Standard Deviation statistics options do not work in content items.

1D/2D/3D data not yet available: 1D, 2D, and 3D data is not yet available in CONNECT early access experience. This affects the following areas:

Enhanced text styling options in canvas dashboards: Text elements now support font family selection with Roboto and Open Sans, selectable font weights and styles, and numeric font size, giving you greater control over text appearance in the canvas dashboards.

Enhanced dialog when adding dashboards to visualizations: When adding content to a visualization, the Browse existing tab now has two available views. The new card view displays thumbnails of the dashboards. The list view is enhanced with description, content tags, and linked types.

Explore page enhancements: The following enhancements are added to the Explore page:

Launch the view streams page: When viewing a stream, the right-hand pane now includes a Manage stream action. This action opens the stream on the view streams page.

Configure time range for streams viewed in trend on Explore page: When viewing streams in a trend, the time range for the trend can now be configured.

Terminology change: To clarify content creation and management, these term updates are partially implemented in this release:
-
“Visualizations” are now “Dashboards”: Items previously called visualizations are now called dashboards.
-
“Visualization” now includes experiences and dashboards: In areas where the term visualization is still used, it refers to both experiences and dashboards.
You will continue to see the previous terminology in some areas. Additional updates are coming in a future release.

Modernized customer portal experience: CONNECT has been redesigned to support intuitive navigation and a unified service catalog. This includes enhanced user management and data integration.

Integrated data capabilities: Features from CONNECT data services are integrated within CONNECT itself, enabling better scalability, maintainability, and integration with CONNECT and its applications and services.

Entity relationship modeling for industrial twin: CONNECT early access experience introduces a new capability to define and query relationships between industrial entities (like assets, events, and documents), forming the foundation for scalable digital twin architecture.

Policy- and role-based authorization: A new authorization model enables fine-grained access control over both services and resources, including support for custom roles, scoped permissions, and service-to-service authorization.

Navigate your assets, streams, and events on the Explore page: The all-new Explore page provides a unified view of how assets, streams, events, documents, visualizations, and processes are connected. Select an entity, stream, or type to see detailed information and associated content such as documents, streams, events, and 3D models. Use the Relationships view to navigate the associations between related entities, streams, and types in a knowledge graph.

Multi-tab panes in experiences: Group up to 20 content items into a single pane with labeled tabs so viewers can switch views without losing context or cluttering the workspace.

Stream property selection: When visualizing streams or asset stream references, you can now select which properties to include beyond the default Value property.

Revamped pages for browsing experiences and visualizations: The Browse Visualizations and Browse Experiences pages are revamped to provide a smoother and more visual experience for both content viewers and content managers.

PI Vision to CONNECT agent: Use the PI Vision to CONNECT agent to publish multiple PI Vision displays at once and quickly move PI Vision displays into CONNECT. Once your PI Vision displays appear in CONNECT, you can view them alongside your other CONNECT data to compare and reference the information as needed.
