Create a share

We recommend that you establish a share between CONNECT and your third-party analytics platform before you create a virtual table.

To create a share, perform the following steps:

1. In the left pane, select Data modeling > Virtual Tables.

2. Select the Shares tab.

3. Select Create share.

4. Select the drop-down and choose from where you want to share your data.

   Proceed to subheading for your selection.

Databricks

Complete the following steps after you select Databricks from the dropdown.

5. Select Next.

6. In the Name box, enter a name for your share.

   Names may only contain upper and lower-case letters, numbers, and underscores. Incorrectly formatted share names will cause the virtual table assignment to fail.

7. Copy your Databricks sharing identifier from your Databricks instance and paste it into the Sharing identifier box.

   The Databricks sharing identifier is in a <provider>:<region>:<metastoreid> format such as azure:westus:f12dcb34-5678-9d4c-1234-c5ac67f8b90a.

8. Select Create.

Microsoft Fabric (Preview)

Complete the following steps after you select Microsoft Fabric from the dropdown.

9. Select Next.

10. In the Name box, enter a name for your share.

    Names may only contain upper and lowercase letters, numbers, and underscores. Incorrectly formatted share names will cause the virtual table assignment to fail.

11. Copy the client ID, client secret, and Aveva catalog URL. You can also select Download JSON to download a JSON file containing this information or select Copy all to JSON to copy all of this information in JSON format.

    Important: You cannot access the client secret after you create your share. Save all values before continuing.

12. Select Close.

Snowflake (OIDC Federated)

Complete the following steps after you select Snowflake (OIDC Federated) from the dropdown.

13. Select Next.

14. In the Name box, enter a name for your share. Then, select Next.

    Names may only contain upper and lowercase letters, numbers, and underscores. Incorrectly formatted share names will cause the virtual table assignment to fail.

15. Copy the qualified share name and recipient URL and make them available for use in Snowflake configuration.

16. Select Finish later. Your share will have an incomplete configuration for now.

17. In Snowflake, you must now configure the catalog integration. This requires SQL statements in Snowflake.

    1. CONNECT to Snowflake - Create Catalog Integration.sql

       USE ROLE ACCOUNTADMIN;

       CREATE OR REPLACE CATALOG INTEGRATION <[NAME]>

       CATALOG_SOURCE = DELTA_SHARING

       TABLE_FORMAT = DELTA

       REST_CONFIG = (

       CATALOG_URI = '[RECIPIENT URL]'

       CATALOG_NAME = '[QUALIFIED SHARE NAME]'

       ACCESS_DELEGATION_MODE = VENDED_CREDENTIALS

       )

       REST_AUTHENTICATION = (

       TYPE = OIDC

       OIDC_AUDIENCE = '[AUDIENCE NAME]'

       )

       ENABLED = TRUE;

       Define the name for the catalog integration and paste the recipient URL in the CATALOG_URI field and the qualified share name in the CATALOG_NAME field. Define the OIDC_AUDIENCE. The name you choose is up to you, and will be used to complete the share creation in CONNECT and must match exactly.

    2. Snowflake to CONNECT - Retrieve OIDC Identity.sql

       Snowflake provides a WORKLOAD_IDENTITY_FEDERATION_ISSUER and a WORKLOAD_IDENTITY_FEDERATION_SUBJECT. Copy these to complete the share creation in CONNECT.

18. In the left pane of CONNECT, select Data modeling > Virtual Tables, then select the Shares tab.

19. Select the share with an incomplete configuration.

20. Select Continue.

21. Fill out the following fields:

    • Paste the WORKLOAD_IDENTITY_FEDERATION_ISSUER in the Issuer URL field.

    • Select sub in the Subject claim drop-down.

    • Paste the WORKLOAD_IDENTITY_FEDERATION_SUBJECT in the Audiences field.

    • Use the OIDC_AUDIENCE from Snowflake in the Audience field.

22. Select Finish.

OpenSharing

Complete the following steps after you select OpenSharing from the dropdown.

23. Select Next.

24. In the Name box, enter a name for your share.

    Names may only contain upper and lower-case letters, numbers, and underscores. Incorrectly formatted share names will cause the virtual table assignment to fail.

25. Your token will expire in 365 days. Review the token expiration notice, then select Next.

26. Copy the provided qualified share name, bearer token, and delta endpoint for use with OpenSharing. You can copy these individually or export all of them at once into a JSON.

    Important: You cannot access these fields after you create your share. Save all values before continuing.

27. Select Close.

Iceberg catalog

28. Complete the following steps after you select Iceberg Catalog from the dropdown.

29. Select Next.

30. In the Name box, enter a name for your share.

    Names may only contain upper and lower-case letters, numbers, and underscores. Incorrectly formatted share names will cause the virtual table assignment to fail.

31. Your token will expire in 365 days. Review the token expiration notice, then select Next.

32. Copy the provided qualified share name, bearer token, and Iceberg endpoint for use with the Iceberg catalog. You can copy these individually or export all of them at once into a JSON.

    Important: You cannot access these fields after you create your share. Save all values before continuing.

33. Select Close.
