This section describes the terms used in this help document:

Account

Every organization using AVEVA’s cloud services is given an account. The organization has complete control over who can access their account and can specify which software they have in the account.

Folder

Data within an account can be partitioned into folders. Folders can help you manage your data better and can be created to represent your business units or asset hierarchy. Organizations can define which services would be available in which folder and can control which of their users can access the services in the context of the folder.

Group

A Group is a logical cluster of users with similar profiles. Grouping users facilitates simplified and effective user access control. For example, instead of assigning a role to individual users, the role can be assigned to the group which assigns the role to all users in the group.

Role

Access privileges in CONNECT are granted through role assignments. A role has a pre-defined access level. When a role is assigned to a user, the user is granted the access level defined for that role.

User

An individual user who accesses CONNECT and/or works on an AVEVA’s cloud application.

User session

A user session starts when a user launches a service in CONNECT and ends when the user logs out of the service, or when the service times out due to inactivity, which is capped at 119 minutes. Each individual user session can be up to a maximum of 24 hours in duration, at which point a new user session starts.

You can see a breakdown of user sessions for each service in the User usage session report, and the total duration of user sessions in the Service usage report.

User hourly session

A user hourly session is defined as at least one recorded use of a user-service-account combination, starting at the time the combination is first used and lasting for up to one hour.

Any use of the same user-service-account combination within the same hour-long window will not be recorded as a new user hourly session. However, subsequent use of this combination outside of this hour forms a new session until another hour is up.

For example, if a user continues to use a service from 09:45 to 12:30 and usage is generated for the same combination throughout, there would be three user hourly sessions.

Additionally, if a user has signed in to two different services one after the other (within the hour window), there would be two user hourly sessions.

Access Token

A validation mechanism used by CONNECT to authenticate and authorize users. An access token is unique and has an expiry date. Users can use the access token to access AVEVA applications.

Federated Users

Users authenticated by a third-party authentication mechanism are referred to as Federated Users. These users are not different from other users, except that they are not authenticated by CONNECT.

Flex Credits

Flex credits are the way AVEVA charges its customers for using its cloud products. Customers buy Flex credits from AVEVA, the credits are then deducted from the customers' account according to the rate plan of the service.

Integration Services

CONNECT enables you to integrate with and transfer data from one cloud service to another. The services that support this feature are known as Integration Services.

Services Vs Capabilities

A Service is an application available to a CONNECT user through the cloud. A Service may comprise several capabilities, such as a user portal, an admin module, or a data loader, all comprising the same service.

Application

An application is any AVEVA product that is used by the customers on cloud or on premise.
