Welcome to AVEVA PI Server 2024 R2 Installation and Configuration! This publication is intended for PI System administrators and anyone who installs and configures the AVEVA™ PI System™.

AVEVA PI Server is an enterprise-class platform used to aggregate, contextualize, and distribute real-time operations data across the AVEVA PI System. Its architecture and feature set enable seamless interoperability with a wide range of AVEVA software products, supporting both on-premises and hybrid deployments.

AVEVA PI Server 2024 R2 offers the following benefits:

  • Management and storage of PI Asset Framework (AF) data on these supported cloud database platforms: Microsoft Azure SQL Database, Microsoft Azure SQL Managed Instance, and Amazon Relational Database Service (RDS) for SQL Server.

  • Modern authentication: The ability to enable TLS 1.3 for all connection protocols, and use OpenID Connect (OIDC) authentication for claims-based authentication.

  • The PI to CONNECT agent: Enables the transfer of on-premises PI Server data to the CONNECT data services cloud-based portal.

  • Enhanced edge-to-cloud integration:Seamless integration of data across on-premises, edge, and cloud environments.

  • Improved data accessibility: Easier and more secure access to operational data from various locations.

The AVEVA PI Server install kit offers the following software components:

  • Data Archive: Stores and archives time-series data and serves it in real time.

  • PI AF Server: Stores, contextualizes, refines, and analyzes operational plant data. The PI AF server consists of the PI AF application service and the on-premises PI AF SQL or cloud-hosted SQL database.

  • PI System Explorer: An application used to create models of your plant assets and operations.

  • PI Analysis Service: An optional software component that allows you to run analyses in PI System Explorer.

  • PI Notifications Service: An optional software component that allows you to create e-mail alerts or trigger external web services when important events occur in PI System Explorer.

  • Additional applications and tools, such as the PI to CONNECT Agent, PI System Management Tools (SMT), and other utilities.
