After you have configured distribution and granted appropriate permissions, you are ready to create the publication on the SQL Server that contains your PI AF database. A publication can be created with Transact-SQL or SQL Server Management Studio. For more information, see the Microsoft topic: Create a publication.

The following instructions use SQL Server Management Studio.

  1. Open SQL Server Management Studio.

  2. Expand the server node, right-click the Local Publications folder and then select the New Publication option.

    The New Publications wizard opens.

  3. Select Next, select the PI AF database from the Databases list, then select Next again.

  4. Select Transactional Publication, then select Next.

  5. In the Objects to Publish pane, select all the tables you want to replicate. Do not select any other database objects.

Important: Do not replicate the System ID table. Make sure to leave this check box unselected. The System ID table contains the name of the AF server, which may no longer be correct if the AF server was moved to another machine.

  6. To ensure that all existing indexes, constraints, and other default values are replicated, select Set Properties of All Table Articles in the Article Properties dropdown list.

  7. Set all the options to true under the Copy Objects and Settings to Subscriber section except the Copy file groups association option (this option is not supported by all cloud managed SQL platforms).

  8. Select OK, then select Next.

  9. (Optional) Specify any filters, then select Next.

Note: In most cases, there is no need to filter data in your publication.

  10. Select the option to create a snapshot immediately at publication creation, then select Next.

  11. To select the account used to run the Snapshot Agent process and connect to the Publisher, select Security Settings.

  12. Select OK, then select Next.

  13. Select the option to create the publication at the end of the wizard, then select Next.

  14. Name the publication, then select Finish.
