In most cases, upgrading to the latest version of Data Archive does not affect PI client applications. Additional security configuration steps might be necessary for:
-
Learn about products that connect to Data Archive through a trust (most will work fine; some custom applications might need reconfiguring)
Unless a client meets one of the above criteria, it should work with the latest version of Data Archive without any extra configuration. If you want to use new Data Archive security features, you need to:
-
Upgrade the PI SDK to PI SDK 2016 or later. Nearly all functionality for the new Windows security and transport security on the client side resides within the PI SDK.
-
Upgrade Administrative client applications (applications that can set access permissions)
Note: Starting with the release of PI API 2016 for Windows Integrated Security, PI API supports Windows authentication. Earlier versions of PI API do not support Windows authentication. In those cases, PI API-based applications can authenticate only through a PI trust or explicit login. Most interfaces are PI API-based.
