The pidiag utility is installed as part of Data Archive installation. Use the pidiag utility when you are dealing with an existing installation and need to regenerate a new machine signature file (MSF) during an upgrade of Data Archive. The pidiag utility is a command-line administration tool. See the PI Data Archive topic pidiag command-line options.

  1. Launch the command prompt as administrator.

  2. Navigate to the PI\adm directory.

  3. Execute the following command: pidiag -host -file filename.msf.

The filename is the full path and name of the MSF. For example: D:\PI\adm>pidiag -host -file D:\prod.msf

  4. Paste the path of the MSF to a text document on the host machine. You will need this MSF file path information later in the setup process.

  5. If the host machine does not have access to the internet, navigate to the file path and copy the MSF to an internet-accessible computer. The next part of the licensing process requires accessing the Customer Portal. See Generate a license file.
