A machine signature file (MSF) contains hardware, network and operating system information specific to a Data Archive host machine. The information from the MSF is added to the license file and is used to determine whether Data Archive is running on the intended host machine.
The PI License Manager runs locally on each Data Archive server, and manages the license database for Data Archive. During startup, the PI License Manager loads and checks the license file (pilicense.dat) against the host machine, and calculates the percentage of matching items. If the percentage match of the host machine against the license file is less than the percentage match specified in the license file, Data Archive cannot initialize successfully.
After Data Archive starts up successfully, the PI License Manager periodically checks the license percent match.
Note: The number of items recorded in the MSF may vary from version to version. License percent mismatch often occurs when the MSF generating tool is out of sync with the version of PI License Manager on Data Archive. Therefore, it is important to generate the MSF on the machine you intended to host Data Archive.
-
Launch PI System Management Tool (PI SMT) on the host machine.
-
Navigate to Operation > Licensing > Usage > Current Pctmatch on the System Management Tools pane.
The license percent match is displayed for the host machine.
-
To check the minimum percent match specified by the license file, navigate to Operation > Licensing > General > Pctmatch on the System Management Tools pane.
If the percentage match of the host machine against the license file is less than this minimum percentage match, Data Archive cannot initialize successfully.
