Plan an AVEVA PI Server deployment

This section primarily focuses on deployment of Data Archive and PI AF server. Frequently, additional computers are needed for additional Server Roles. For example, PI Analysis Service and PI Notifications are commonly installed together, but on a different computer than the PI AF server and Data Archive.

Before installing PI Server, it is essential that you take some time to evaluate your needs and available resources to help decide the type of deployment is most appropriate. The type of deployment you choose should take into account:

• Selecting the appropriate PI Server roles and individual features you will need in your deployment

• Evaluating and determining where you want to install each Server Role within your deployment to optimize performance

• Evaluating high availability options available for each of your Server Roles, and planning for those HA deployments as appropriate

• Understanding the security considerations that come along with implementing your chosen deployment
