PI AF server upgrade

You can upgrade PI AF server through the PI Server install kit or through the command line. The PI AF server consists of the PI AF Application Service and the PI AF SQL Server database, and can be deployed on one or more computers. Upgrading the PI AF server involves upgrading the PI AF Application Service and the PI AF SQL Server database.

PI AF server upgrades for cloud database platforms

If you plan to upgrade to PI AF server 2024 R2 and use one of the supported cloud database platforms to host and manage your PI AF SQL database, you will need to perform the following tasks:

1. Edit the AFServiceconfig.exe file either before or after an upgrade from the install kit to specify the following:

   1. The cloud SQL database that will host the PI AF database

   2. The preferred authentication mode for your cloud SQL database.

2. Migrate your existing PI AF database to the chosen cloud database platform. See Migrate on-prem PI AF data to the cloud.
