Create primary on a new computer

If you create a primary server on a new target computer, you can simplify your tasks by giving the target computer the same name as the source computer. If the target computer has a different name, then you need to add the target computer to the PI collective and promote that computer.

To create a new primary server on a machine with the same name:

  1. Prepare the new Data Archive machine.

    1. Generate a license activation file for the new machine. See Generate a license activation file for the target computer.

    2. Install Data Archive software on the new machine. See Install on the target computer.

  2. Prepare the source Data Archive machine. See Prepare the source Data Archive for the move.

    1. Force an archive shift. See the Data Archive topic Force an archive shift by using piartool.

    2. Stop Data Archive.

  3. Move files from the source Data Archive to the target Data Archive.

These files include current data files, queue files, log files, any changed adm files, and changed bin files, and archive files. To move non-archive files, see Copy non-archive files from source to the target server. To move archive files, see the Data Archive topic Move archive files.

  4. Bring the new Data Archive online.
