PI Notifications feature components

PI Asset Framework (PI AF) includes PI Notifications Service, which uses notification rules to generate alerts. The notifications feature utilizes the following three components:

• PI Notifications Service

  Required for sending real-time notifications. Use the PI Server install kit to install PI Notifications Service. You need one instance of PI Notifications Service for each PI AF server (server hosting the PI AF application service) on which you want to use notification rules.

• PI System Explorer

  Required to configure notifications rules. Use the PI Server install kit to install PI System Explorer.

• Management plug-in (Optional component)

  PI System Explorer plug-in that provides advanced features for management and bulk operations. Use the PI AF Client setup kit to install the Management plug-in. The PI AF Client setup kit does not install the plug-in by default; you must manually select the plug-in for installation.
