AF Maintenance job

This AF Maintenance job is used to run the AF maintenance stored procedures on a scheduled basis. When the PI AF SQL Server database is installed, the AF Maintenance job is created. The job may be in the disabled state.

When you enable the AF Maintenance job, it runs stored procedures that perform the following actions:

• Cleans up orphaned and deleted database elements

• Updates the path cache so searches are potentially performed more quickly

• Reindexes to clean up fragmented indexes, potentially improving PI AF responsiveness

• Updates statistics, to potentially improve PI AF server responsiveness

  Note: While the AF Maintenance job can potentially clean up the SQL database and improve performance, it can also cause substantial activity on the SQL Server during the minutes or hours it needs to complete. In some cases this activity may slow system response. Ideally you should schedule the AF Maintenance job so it runs during off-peak hours, such as at night or during a scheduled maintenance window.
