Before you begin, make sure that the PI AF SQL Server database has been upgraded on all SQL Server Cluster machines and that the PI AF Application Service resource is offline. See Upgrade the PI AF SQL Server database and Take PI AF server offline before the upgrade.

To perform this procedure, you must run the PI Server setup kit on each node in the failover cluster that runs the PI AF Application Service.

Note: After performing this procedure on the active node of the failover cluster, you must repeat the procedure all other nodes in the cluster.

This procedure assumes that the failover cluster for the PI AF Application Service includes at least two machines. For details, see Install recommendations for a failover cluster.

  1. Launch the PI Server install kit to start the upgrade for your PI AF server.

    1. Double-click the PI Server install kit.

    2. Click Next.

      The Feature Selection window appears.

    3. In the Feature Selection window, ensure that the PI AF Application Service option is selected.

  2. Click Next.

The SQL Server Connection window appears.

  3. Verify the SQL Server name (and optionally the named instance) for your upgrade.

You can enter the cluster\instance information manually or select if from the list. Do not select the machine name instance because you are upgrading the cluster, not the individual instance.

  4. When running the upgrade on a non-active node, clear the Validate connection to SQL Server and version of the AF SQL database check box.

  5. Ensure that no check boxes are selected in the AF SQL Database Setup area.

  6. Click Next to proceed with the setup.

A check is performed to see if an AF SQL Server database already exists.

  7. Click Next.

    The Service Accounts window appears.

  8. Verify that the service account assigned to the PI AF Application Service is correct. If it is, click Next. Otherwise re-enter the service account, add the correct password, and click Next.

The Summary window appears, listing the selected features and version numbers scheduled for the upgrade.

  9. Click Install to start the upgrade process.

The Installation Progress window opens. When the upgrade is finished, the Complete window opens.

  10. Click Close.

  11. Using the Windows Services list, make sure the PI AF Application Service is configured correctly. If the configuration is not correct, stop the service, right-click it, select Properties, and modify its properties so they match the following settings:

    • The Status column must be empty.

    • The Startup column must be set to Manual. This setting allows the Windows Failover Cluster software to control a service during a failover.

    • The Log On As column must show the service account that was verified earlier in this procedure.

  12. Repeat this entire procedure for every node in the failover cluster.
