Create a machine signature file (MSF) on the machine you intend to host Data Archive before generating a license file. Internet connectivity and access to the AVEVA Support portal is required.

  1. If your host machine does not have internet connectivity, copy the MSF to an Internet-accessible computer to access the AVEVA Support portal.

  2. Sign on to the AVEVA Support portal.

  3. On the AVEVA Support page, scroll down in the left navigation rail, then select License Activation.

    The License Activation page opens.

  4. Select AVEVA PI.

The AVEVA PI License Activation page opens.

  5. Select the account and equipment to license.

Tip: Use the search field to locate equipment.

Details about your license is displayed in the License Details section.

  6. Drag-and-drop your MSF license file to the Drop files here to select field or select SELECT .MSF FILE and browse to the location of your MSF file.

  7. After uploading the MSF file, select Continue.

  8. Read the license agreement and then select I have read and agree to the license and service agreement to continue.

  9. Select Generate activation file once the Data Archive server details are confirmed.

The download of the license zip file begins.

  10. Unzip the packaged.zip file and place the license.dat file in the PI\dat directory on your host machine.

    It contains the following files:

    • pilicense.dat, your license file

    • PI_License_Readme.pdf

    • Manifest.html, a list of the contents of your license file

    • If you have an High Availability license, it also includes temporarylicense.dat

  11. Record the directory location where you saved pilicense.dat on your server machine in your PI Server 2024 R2 installation worksheet.

Note: This value will be required by the setup kit later in the Installation phase.

  12. Record the directory location where you saved temporarylicense.dat on your server machine in your PI Server 2024 R2 installation worksheet.

Note: This value will be required by the setup kit later in the Installation phase.

  13. Return to your Data Archive installation and select this license file that you generated and downloaded onto your host machine.

  14. Proceed with the rest of your Data Archive installation.
