The following images represent merge actions where the persistSelection property is set to true or false.
On initial load
In the following images, the persistSelection property is set to false, which is the default value. In this scenario, the merge direction dictates which
event is retained. The state of the event into which you merge the currently selected
event reflects the updated state of the selected event. 
If the persistSelection property is set to true, whatever direction of the merge you select, the currently selected event is retained as shown in the following images.
