Server installation sequence

Server installation should be performed in the order described below. This sequence ensures that the Licensing Server is installed first, so that the other servers can point to the License Server during their installation and configuration. It also ensures that the MES database, the Work Tasks Farm database, and the Work Tasks repository are created before other software is installed that requires that these databases and repository be already installed and configured.
Note: For all configurations, a domain controller is required and must be installed on a separate node. The domain controller cannot coexist with the products used with MES model-driven application content.
Install servers on different nodes: No automation server
-
On the MES Server:
-
Install and configure MES (see MES installation), except for the MES database and MES BI Gateway Reports, which will be installed on the BI Gateway Server.
-
Include the AVEVA Single Sign‑on Service PCS - Runtime component and the AVEVA Enterprise License Server and Manager components as part of the installation.
-
Activate the AVEVA product license (see Product licensing).
-
Install and configure Work Tasks (see Work Tasks installation), except for the Work Tasks farm and repository databases, which will be installed on the BI Gateway Server.
-
If you are carrying forward custom workflows that require MES Connector, install and configure the latest version of Work Tasks Connector and Extension for MES (see Work Tasks Extension and Connector for MES installation).
-
-
On the BI Gateway Server:
-
Install BI Gateway (see Install BI Gateway).
-
Install the MES database and MES BI Gateway Reports (see Installing MES and Install the MES components for BI Gateway Server).
-
Configure the MES Database and MES Middleware Proxy components.
-
Configure the BI Gateway components and update the BI Gateway database with the MES tables and data adapter (see Configure BI Gateway for the BI Gateway Server).
-
Configure the MES BI Gateway Reports component (see Configure MES BI Gateway Reports).
-
Install the Work Tasks farm and repository databases (see Configure the Work Tasks Farm and Enterprise Console site settings and Create the Work Tasks Repository for MES model-driven content).
-
-
On the MES Server, install the MES model-driven application content packages (see Install Model Driven MES content packages in Work Tasks).
Install servers on different nodes: With automation server (for plants using automated data and event capture)
-
On the Automation Server, install and configure System Platform.
-
Include the PCS Framework by selecting any role that includes the Galaxy Repository for installation.
-
Include the AVEVA Enterprise License Server and Manager by selecting the Application Server component, InTouch component, or any role that includes the Galaxy Repository for installation.
-
-
Activate the AVEVA product license (see Product licensing).
-
On the MES Server:
-
Install and configure MES (see Install MES and Configure the MES components).
Do include the MES Middleware component.
Do not include:
-
The MES Database, .NET Controls, Application Objects, and Entity Model Builder components, which will be installed on the Automation Server
-
The MES Reports, which will be installed on the BI Gateway Server
-
-
Install and configure Work Tasks (see Work Tasks installation), except for the Work Tasks farm and repository databases, which will be installed on the Automation Server.
-
Install and configure the Work Tasks Extension for System Platform.
-
If you are carrying forward custom workflows that require MES Connector, install and configure the latest version of Work Tasks Extension and Connector for MES (see Work Tasks Extension and Connector for MES installation).
-
-
On the MES or BI Gateway Server:
-
Install BI Gateway (see Install BI Gateway).
-
Install the MES BI Gateway Reports (see Install the MES components for BI Gateway Server).
-
Configure the BI Gateway components and update the BI Gateway database with the MES tables and data adapter (see Configure BI Gateway for the BI Gateway Server).

-
-
On the Automation Server:
-
Install and configure the MES Database, .NET Controls, Application Objects, and Entity Model Builder components.
-
Install and configure the Work Tasks farm and repository databases (see Configure the Work Tasks Farm and Enterprise Console site settings and Create the Work Tasks Repository for MES model-driven content).
-
Install and configure the Work Tasks Connector for System Platform.
-
Import the Work Tasks application objects and scripts that are required for System Platform into the galaxy.
-
Create the Workflow Gateway in the System Platform galaxy.
-
-
On the MES Server, install the MES model-driven application content packages.
Install all servers on the same node
