Access permissions for Data Archive collective management

To set database security permissions, use the Database Security tool in PI System Management Tools.

To create or modify a Data Archive collective, you must have a Windows account that has administrative access to all machines on the collective. Additionally, on the primary Data Archive server, you need replication permission:

PIREPLICATION (r,w)

This access enables you to:

  • Add, edit, rename, or delete entries in the PISERVER and PICOLLECTIVE tables.

  • Force a synchronization.

  • Open or close a server.

  • Control Data Archive stand-alone mode.

  • Promote a secondary server to a primary server.

  • Remove a server from a collective.

PI Collective Manager performs a backup before doing Data Archive collective operations. If you are using the PI Collective Manager to create or modify the collective, then you also need backup permission:

PIBACKUP (r,w)

You do not need this access if you are creating or modifying the collective manually.

Note: These access permissions are valid for Data Archive version 3.4.380 and later. Earlier versions do not include the PIBACKUP entry in database security so piadmin access is required for PI Collective Manager in that version. Data Archive collectives were introduced in version 3.4.375.
