Buffering and High Availability

Monitor Data Archive collective performance

You can use the PI Performance Monitor interface (PerfMon) to read performance counters for the Data Archive server and to archive those values. In a Data Archive collective, each server has unique values. Therefore, you must configure the interface and create unique performance-monitor tags on each Data Archive in a collective.

The method for differentiating interfaces in a collective is to use PerfMon to assign a unique combination of pointsource and location1 to each installed interface.

To view the status of different servers from all the collective servers, use buffering to send the data to each server in the collective. If one server fails, other servers in the collective will contain performance data collected prior to the failure. Because the performance monitor interfaces are located on the Data Archive computer, the interface configuration must specify the explicit name of the server host rather than specifying localhost. This change allows the interface to use n-way buffering.

Note: The PI Performance Monitor is not installed by default with the Data Archive server. For more information see the documentation for the PI Performance Monitor interface.
