This topic describes a basic procedure to configure PI to PI to copy data from a primary server to a secondary server in a Data Archive collective. Installing the interface on the secondary server and pulling data from the primary server can improve PI to PI performance if the secondary server is located in a high-latency business network. For more detailed information, see the PI to PI Interface manual.

  1. Install the PI to PI interface on the secondary server.

  2. Click Start > All Programs > PI System > PI Interface Configuration Utility.

  3. Create a new instance of the interface.

    1. Select Interface > New Windows Interface Instance from BAT File.

    2. Navigate to the PItoPI directory.

    3. Select PItoPI.bat_new and click Open.

    4. In Select the host PI Server/Collective, select the collective and click OK.

PI ICU creates a new instance of the interface.

  4. Select IO Rate in the page tree and clear the Enable IORates for this interface check box.

  5. Select General in the page tree and set the following properties:

    1. In Point Source(s), add the point source identifier for each interface that sends data to the primary server.

    2. Set SDK Member to secondary server.

    3. Set API Hostname to secondary server.

    4. Click Apply.

You might also consider editing the existing scan class and reducing the scan frequency.

  6. Select PItoPI in the page tree and click the Required tab.

    • In Source host, type name of the primary server.

  7. Click the Location tab.

    • Select the Override location 1 check box.

    • Select the Override location 2 check box and select 0 in the corresponding drop-down list.

    • Select the Override 3 check box and select 3 in the corresponding drop-down list.

    • Select the Override 4 check box and select Sign up for exceptions.

    • Select the Override 5 check box and select 0 in the corresponding drop-down list.

  8. Click the Optional tab.

    • Select the Source tag definition attribute check box.

    • Select the option Use TagName on both (Ignoring Exdesc and InstrumentTag point attributes).

  9. Select Service in the page tree, and click Create .

  10. Click the Start interface service button to start the service.
