Buffering and High Availability

Configure connections for AF SDK clients

You can configure the client connection settings of your AF SDK client (connection preference and connection priority values) to affect the way that certain HA features behave when there is a disruption (Client failover) and after a disruption has resolved (Client failback.)

AF SDK clients can connect to an independent PI Data Archive server or to a PI Data Archive collective. The AF SDK client considers a PI Data Archive collective to be a single data source. If connected to a collective, AF SDK selects a server to provide data based upon the connection preference and connection priority values. If the connected server becomes unavailable, AF SDK connects to another server in the collective based upon the connection priority values of each server.

Additionally, you can spread out client connections across the servers of a PI Data Archive collective to distribute the overhead associated among client collective members (Client connection balancing).

Use PI System Explorer to configure the connection priority values for your AF SDK clients.
