The process you follow differs depending on your current configuration. PI Buffer Subsystem 4.3 is provided with PI System Explorer 2.6.1 or later, PI SDK 1.4.4 or later, and certain interfaces. (Refer to the release notes for your interface to find out whether it includes the latest version of PI Buffer Subsystem.)
-
Upgrade from an earlier version of PI Buffer Subsystem
If you upgrade from an earlier version of PI Buffer Subsystem, the new version automatically uses the existing configuration settings. Buffering Manager does not start during setup, and no action is required to configure the software unless you want to change those settings.
-
Install for the first time or upgrade from API Buffer Server (bufserv)
If you install for the first time or upgrade from API Buffer Server, Buffering Manager starts during setup to guide you through the configuration process. During upgrades from API Buffer Server, Buffering Manager uses your existing configuration as the default and provides the opportunity to change settings if needed.
In either case, you can complete the configuration steps during installation, or you can complete them later. Configuration includes steps for selecting the applications to buffer, setting up security, selecting the location of the buffer queue, and verifying buffering connectivity and health.
Note: If you cancel while upgrading to PI Buffer Subsystem, then the next time you start Buffering Manager, you will be prompted to complete the process.
