Create primary Data Archive server on a new computer

If you create a primary server on a new target computer, you can simplify your tasks by giving the target computer the same name as the source computer. If the target computer has a different name, then you need to add the target computer to the Data Archive collective and promote that computer.

  1. Perform all necessary preliminary steps.

  2. Prepare the new Data Archive machine.

    1. Generate a license activation file for the new machine. To see how many secondary servers are allowed with your license, check the licensing app in PI System Management Tools (PI SMT).

    2. Install Data Archive software on the new machine.

  3. Prepare the source Data Archive machine.

    1. Force an archive shift.

    2. Stop Data Archive.

  4. Move files from the source Data Archive server to the target Data Archive server.

These files include current data files, queue files, and archive files.

  5. Start the new Data Archive server.
