Buffering and High Availability

Select the buffer location

The buffer location is the folder containing the buffer queue file (or files) used to temporarily store buffered data for each Data Archive server if it becomes unavailable. When the connection is restored, PI Buffer Subsystem sends the data from the queue file to the server.

The Buffering Configuration pane shows the available drives and the available space on each drive. Use this pane to select the buffer location for all buffered servers that will receive data from this computer.

Note: For optimal performance and reliability, select a drive that does not contain the operating system or the Windows page file.

  1. To select the buffer location, do one of the following:

    Accept the default buffer location

    The default is either the previously configured buffering location (if one exists), or %ProgramData%\OSIsoft\Buffering.

    Go to the next step.

    Select the recommended buffer location

    Click the Use recommended link to highlight the recommended location in the list, then double-click the highlighted location.

    If clicking the Use recommended link has no effect, then the location shown is the recommended location.

    Select any other drive as the buffer location

    Click the Browse link and select a location.

  2. Click Next.

    Buffering Manager starts PI Buffer Subsystem with the new configuration settings and attempts to connect to the specified Data Archive servers and collectives.
