Welcome to Buffering and High Availability! The intended audience of this publication is PI System administrators and anyone who installs and configures the AVEVA™ PI System™.

This guide provides best practices for implementing buffering and high availability for your AVEVA PI System.

The benefits of using buffering and high availability for PI Server are listed here:

• Buffering helps to protect against data loss at PI interface and client computers when the PI Data Archive server is unavailable.

• Buffering also helps ensure data integrity on Data Archive collectives by fanning data to all collective members (often called n-way buffering).

• Using high availability (HA) with Data Archive, PI Asset Framework, and all AVEVA™ PI System components allows you to achieve necessary uptime.
