The Buffering Manager dashboard provides an overview of buffering status on this computer and the option to view additional details if needed. It provides an overview of buffering status on a computer with the option to view additional details if needed. This information is updated every few seconds, so within a short time, you can tell whether or not events are being processed for each server.

What you will see in the dashboard

  • The icon next to Global Buffering Status is green when buffering is operating normally. The icon turns yellow if there are warnings or red if there are errors.

  • When warnings or errors appear, look for more information elsewhere on the dashboard. For example, if a number other than zero appears next to Events in queue, you can click to view the number of events in each server's queue.

  • When you expand Global Buffering Status to view the list of servers, you will also see the identity PI Buffer Subsystem is using to connect to each server.

  • Next to total events sent, you will also see the number of events sent per second. The value displayed is the average number of events sent per second during the past 10 minutes.

  • The PI messages link provides access to the message log.

  • The Settings link provides access to the Buffering Settings window. This window shows settings at one of three levels, depending on what you select in the list of servers (Global, a collective, or a server).
