Create a non-computer-specific license file

If appropriate, create a non-computer-specific license file. If you copied the license file from the primary server to the secondary server and if you previously ran that primary server outside of a collective, then you have a computer-specific license file. In that case, you must edit a registry key and delete a file to enable the secondary server to use the license.

  1. Create a text file named PI_Set_ServerRole_2.reg.

  2. Insert the following text into the file:

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\PISystem\PI]
    "ServerRole"="2"

  3. Double-click the file in Windows Explorer to run regedit32.exe.

  4. Click Yes.

    Windows updates the registry key so that Data Archive server can start and read the configuration database.

  5. Delete the pilicense.ud file from the ..\PI\dat directory.
