Effect on buffering-related files

When you change the buffered Data Archive server or Data Archive collective, the change affects the following files in PIHOME\DAT.

File

Effect of changing buffered server

pibufmem.dat (point and snapshot cache file)

This file is renamed.

The file currently in use is named pibufmem.dat.

The file used by the original buffered server is renamed with a numeric file extension, for example, pibufmem.1303779431.

pibufq_buffered_server_name.dat or APIBUF_buffered_server_name.dat (buffer queue files)

A new queue file is created for the new buffered server.

The file currently in use shows the current buffered server as its buffered_server_name.

Files that show the names of previous buffered servers are used as follows:

  • If there is data in the queue after changing the buffered server, that data will not be sent to Data Archive.

  • If you later start buffering to this server again from the same node, the data will be sent to Data Archive.
