Operator console header

The Operator console header.

By default, the Operator console header contains the following functionality:

Equipment selection

The equipment selection dropdown allows operators to choose the specific equipment—such as a machine, line, vessel, or unit—they are currently working on. When a new piece of equipment is selected, the Operator console automatically updates to display the relevant data and active tasks associated with that equipment.

Access to equipment options is role-based and can be tailored to each individual operator. This ensures that users only see equipment they are authorized to interact with, based on the access rights configured within the AVEVA MES system. This targeted visibility helps streamline the operator’s experience and supports secure, efficient task execution.

Equipment status

Equipment status provides operators with a quick view of the current operational state of the selected equipment and allows them to manually manage downtime events when needed.

The Operator console equipment status.

By default, the status field displays whether the equipment is in RUNNING or DOWNTIME mode. Just below the status indicator, a reason code is shown to explain the current state. If no specific reason is assigned, the system will display:

  • Running for an unspecified running state

  • Unknown for an unclassified downtime

Operators can click the status field to manually switch between RUNNING and DOWNTIME. For example, selecting the RUNNING status will create an unclassified downtime event and generate a corresponding task in the task list. The operator can end the downtime event by clicking the status again, returning the equipment to RUNNING.

If the MES solution is configured to receive automatically generated reason codes, the equipment status and associated reasons will be updated in real time according to standard MES logic. This ensures accurate tracking and reporting of equipment performance and downtime causes.

Configurable header content

The configurable header content can be customized to display additional information based on the specific needs of the user or solution. Positioned alongside the equipment selection and status fields, this section can be configured to show context-relevant content—such as job progress indicators, performance metrics, or other operational data.

The displayed content is determined by configuration rules defined in the composition engine, allowing different modules to dynamically adjust what appears in the header.

Task and additional tabs

The Composable MES Operator console Task tab and configurable content.

The Operator console uses a tab-based layout to organize MES functionality. At its core is the Task tab, which is always present and displays active tasks for the selected equipment. Each task is linked to a specific use case, allowing operators to take immediate action—such as starting a job or assigning downtime. For more information, see Operator console Task tab.

In addition to the Task tab, the console can include optional tabs that provide access to project-specific or role-based functionality. These may include:

  • Job or work order management

  • Performance dashboards (e.g., KPIs)

  • Material handling (e.g., material reception, kitting)

  • Supervisory functions (with limited access for operators)

  • Other user-defined functions

These tabs are defined during solution configuration and tailored to the operator’s role.
