AVEVA™ Instrumentation

What is Security Manager

The Instrumentation Security Manager application enables an Administrator or Super User to set up access and security rights on 'Objects' in an SQL Server database. The access rights are role based and include read-write, read-only or a mixture of these rights. Furthermore, Instrumentation Security Manager also supports 'no access' rights which will stop a user from viewing object data or running a specific AVEVA Instrumentation application.

AVEVA Instrumentation 'objects' within Instrumentation Security Manager are Instruments, Cables, Equipment, Datasheets, Drawings, Reports, Catalogues, and other logical items.

For example, the Instrumentation Security Manager Administrator could allow User A to edit cables and equipment, but not edit datasheets. User B could be allowed read-only access to everything. User C could be allowed to edit datasheets but not process data, User D cannot open or view any AVEVA Instrumentation data reports.

Access rights can also be defined on the basis of plant areas. Users may have access to objects in some areas, but not to others.

Note: By default, AVEVA Instrumentation Security Manager is disabled for all new AVEVA Instrumentation databases. Security must be enabled from the Instrumentation Security Manager.
