Before files can be published for AVEVA AIM, the export must be configured.
-
From the Project tab, click Setup, then Publish to AIM Configuration.
The AIM Export Configuration window is then displayed.

Data of various types and from different sources can be exported to AVEVA AIM (for example, equipment data or data from reports).
-
From the Name field, select the type of data export to AVEVA AIM to be configured.
-
If a log file is to be generated for the export type, check the Log Enabled checkbox.
The Log File field will then become enabled
-
In the Log File field, specify the file name and the location of the log file (a .txt file).
-
Click the … button to browse for the required folder.
-
In the Staging Area field, specify the top level folder into which files are to be exported.
-
Click the … button to browse for the required folder.
-
If you click the Create Trigger File checkbox, a trigger.start file (an empty text file) is created in the staging area folder for each file type.
The purpose of the trigger.start file is to trigger the AVEVA AIM Portal’s import controller to automatically process all the files that reside in the same folder.
-
If, for every object being exported, a separate output file is to be generated, check the Output File Per Object checkbox.
-
To select mapping files for the export of data and specify other settings, click Settings.
The Non-CAD Mapping Configuration window is then displayed.

The mappings between Instrumentation data and AVEVA AIM Portal format data are stored in XML files, one for each of the types of mapping:
-
Object Mapping
-
Class Mapping
for further information of these files, refer to AVEVA Asset Information Management Export Configuration Files.
-
-
Click the appropriate … button to browse for the required file.
-
Click the open file button
to open the selected file.
It will open in the default text editor, for example Notepad.
If no file is specified in the field, a new, blank .txt file is opened. If a file that does not exist is specified, you will be asked if you wish to create that file at the specified location.
-
Click Yes to create a new, blank .txt file and open it for editing.
-
To populate the fields with the default configuration and mapping files supplied with AVEVA Instrumentation, click Copy Sample Files.
