Change owner of items

When items are created in Assay they belong to the person who initially sets the item up. This person is the owner of the item. Normally this person is the only person who can make changes to the item, even if the item is shared.

You may need to change the ownership of certain items in order to transfer editing control to a different user. For example, an expert user initially sets up an item. After set up, the owner can transfer editing control to another user who needs to make updates to the item.

Items whose ownership is transferable have a Change Owner entry in the context menu. To change the owner of an item, perform the following steps:

  1. Hover your mouse pointer over the Name of a shared item, then select the down arrow (). Select Change Owner from the context menu.

    The Change Owner dialog opens.

  2. Select New Owner, select a new owner from the list (only users who have access to this share are listed). Alternatively, select No Owner to leave the item without an owner. This is useful if you want to make an item available for collaboration so others can change it later.

  3. Select OK.

Note: To change owner of an object, the object needs to have already been shared. You can only change the ownership of objects you currently own, unless you are an administrator of the group. You can give someone ownership of an object only if they have the necessary permissions to see that object in the first place (for example, permission to view the share the object is in). If you give ownership of an object to someone else, you will no longer be able to edit it (unless you are an administrator).
