Configure data sets

When you select the Create Data Set button or the Edit button for an existing data set, the Edit Data Set page opens. You can select Update or Data Sets in the Properties dialog to save your changes or return to the Data Sets List page respectively.

1. To configure a data set, follow these steps.

   The Shares list displays a list of the system data sets available from which the data set being configured can be built.

   

   • To add a system data set to the data set being configured, select the check box to the left of the system data set name

   • To remove a system data set from the data set being configured, clear the check box to the left of the system data set name.

     The data set being configured comprises all the system data sets you have selected in the Shares list.

2. Each data set requires a name and description. In the Properties dialog box to the right of the Shares list, enter the following information.

   • Provide a name for the data set in the Name field. An error will result if you leave the Name field blank, or if you enter the name of an existing data set.

   • Provide a short description of the data set in the Description field. An error will result if you leave the Description field blank.

3. Save your changes.

   Once you have configured the properties of the data set, take the following actions:

   • Update to save your changes, then Data Sets to return to the Data Sets List page. Your new data set will be shown in the list of saved data sets.

   • Alternatively, select the Data Sets button only to return to the Data Sets List page. Any changes made to the data set since the last update will be lost. In particular, if you have never saved your changes, the new data set will not be created and will not appear in the list of saved data sets.
