File extensions

In Assay, users are not normally able to post messages containing attachments of file types .bat (DOS batch file), .com and .exe (executable files) and .js (JavaScript), because such files can potentially contain hidden viruses or other malicious code. As a forums administrator, you can enable the posting of executable and related files, or prevent messages from being posted that contain attachments of other file types.

The file extensions list shows the file types subject to scrutiny in Assay. The entry in the dropdown box controls whether the listed file types are Allowed or Forbidden. The default option is Allowed.

To add a new file type to the list, enter the name of the new file type in the blank field provided and select the Add button. For example, to prevent the posting of messages containing Microsoft® Word® document (.doc) attachments (which can contain macro viruses), enter .doc in the field provided.

• To remove an existing file type from the list, select the category from the list and select the Remove button.

• If you wish to remove all file types from the list, you can do this by selecting the Remove All button.
