Product specifications

The Product Specifications page shows the property limits applied for the final products of the refinery

Product Specifications are used in the final blending step to ensure that all refinery products meet local requirements. The different refinery streams are pooled together to maximize the crudes value, while ensuring that the applied property specifications are met.

The set of Product Specifications defines the products that a refinery can make. If a product is active in the set of Product Specifications, it means a refinery may make and sell that product. However, it may not be possible to make the particular product if the refinery streams cannot be blended to meet the product specifications. Similarly, a product may not be made if its constituent streams can be blended elsewhere into a higher-value product. For example, jet may not be made if the crude oil being processed does not have a kerosene fraction which meets the final jet specifications. Similarly, jet may not be made if the kerosene fraction can all be blended into diesel (assuming diesel has a higher value).

The set of Product Specifications are used in several places to define the products produced in a refinery. The Product Specifications are also used to define products in:

• Yield constraints

• Product pricing

The Product Specifications grid supports copy and paste from other software applications such as Microsoft Excel.

Toggle the Show disabled grades check box to show or hide product grades. To see all possible grades, tick the check box. This will show all the grades, even if they are disabled, allowing new grades to be made active and have their specifications edited. After adding new grades, deselect the check box to hide the unused product grades, making navigating and editing the grid easier.
