AVEVA™ Simulation for Foxboro Control

Configuring a FAIM Historian Instance

  • Last UpdatedMar 10, 2020
  • 2 minute read

FAIM uses AIM* batch files for its configuration. The AIM* batch files can be generated from the existing AIM*Historian instances by using the AIM "histsave" or "histcsave" utilities. Legacy Foxboro historian users can generate an AIM batch file from their historian by using the "leg2fh" utility.

For convenience, a sample historian configuration based on the DEMO controls set has been included in the installation kit and resides in the default directory:

D:\opt\faim\examples\hist99.inp

The configuration batch files are downloaded into FAIM via the FAIMBatch utility.

Follow these steps to download the sample configuration now.

  1. Click the Start button on the lower-left corner of the screen.

  2. On the Start menu, click All Programs → SIMSCI → SCP → FAIM Batch.

  3. Click Get File Name and Start Batch Configuration to display the Open dialog box.

  4. Browse to D:\opt\faim\examples and select the example "hist99" file.

  5. Click Open to read the configuration file and download it into FAIM. FAIMBatch shows the status information as it processes the file before displaying "Session is committed", which implies the configuration download was successful.

  6. Click the Exit button in FAIMBatch to close it. FAIM will read only the instance configuration changes when it is first started, or when forced by the user.

  7. Click the Load Full model button on the DYNSIM GUI toolbar to enable FAIM to use the newly downloaded configuration.

  8. Click the Resume button to switch the simulation to Run mode. FAIM collects the data as defined in its configuration batch file.
