Promiscuous Mode and the physical world

When SCP is installed on a physical machine with a physical network interface card, the IA Virtual switch protocol driver sets the selected network adapter to promiscuous mode.

On a system in which the Foxboro FECN (formerly MESH) network uses a physical managed switch, the user must set the physical managed switch to promiscuous to allow all packets to transfer. Typically, we recommend using a dumb switch instead of a managed switch to avoid this step.
