When to use the SCP Device Mapping Tool

The simulator architecture (computers, printers, other devices) often has fewer devices than the plant architecture. The SCP Device Mapping Tool allows for redirecting messages without modifying the controls configuration. Messages can be redirected from plant devices that do not exist on the simulator system to devices that do exist, or messages can be disregarded (dead-ended). Simulator performance is adversely affected when the simulator attempts to send messages to non-existent devices. The following rules apply:
-
If all devices exist for a CP, then no mapping file is necessary for that CP.
-
If there is a reason to remap any device for a CP, you must create a device map for that CP. A remapping file is required for each SCP being remapped.
-
All devices named in the "new device" column must be valid and exist.
-
To disregard messages from an old device, leave the device name in the "new device" column blank. This will dead-end the messages from that source device.
