AVEVA™ Simulation for Foxboro Control

Configuring the Network Interface Card

  1. Connect the SCP box to the FECN (formerly MESH) network.

Important Notes: The connection shown in the figure above is a Foxboro proprietary connection (COMEX). There is no need to configure any IP address in the NIC. The COMEX protocol takes care of the communication internally.
No other special network configuration is required to setup SCP communication with the CP Host (AW/WSTA).

If the SCP machine is connected using a fiber optic switch (to the FECN), connect the SCP machine to an uplink port in the fiber optic switch or converter. Do not use an intermediate switch between the SCP machine and the fiber optic switch (FECN network).

  2. In order to connect to a company LAN or to another network, such as a DYNSIM suite of computers, configure a secondary NIC to include a TCP connection. The SCP FECN NIC can only communicate to the FECN.

  3. The SCP and DYNSIM simulation computers should never be connected to a production FECN (formerly MESH) network. In addition, it is recommended that the simulation system is not connected to any corporate or business network.

  4. Ensure that the I/A switch is connected with two NIC cables from the WSTA machine and one NIC cable from the SCP machine.

  5. SCP is installed on a physical or virtual machine, the installer sets the selected NIC to "promiscuous mode" – see Appendix B: Promiscuous Mode.
