Import .CSV files to update to Supported Language

This section provides information on how to import the .CSV file that you can use to change the localization to a supported language.

To import and update the .CSV file

  1. Run the command prompt and type C:\Program Files (x86)\AVEVA\Recipe Management\Bin\RepositoryResourceUtil.exe.

NOTE: Configuring the AVEVA Recipe Management Server creates the RepositoryResourceDB along with the other AVEVA Recipe Management databases.

  2. In the C:\Program Files (x86)\AVEVA\Recipe Management\Bin folder, the UserMessages.csv file contains all the user messages for AVEVA Recipe Management.

  3. Before importing/updating the .CSV file, create a copy of this file so that you can edit the file and make necessary language changes. You can update the file name so that it reflects the language. For example, German2.csv (this name is used for the rest of the example)

  4. Now, open the German2.csv file in Microsoft Excel. It is currently the default English language which you can edit to the German language. All the strings in the Value and LanguageName columns will be modified.

  5. Next, you must find the correct abbreviation for the language that is supported by AVEVA Recipe Management. Open Internet Explorer and go to Internet options and select Languages and the add the preferred language. Here all the abbreviations are listed (For example, de, de-AT, fr, fr-CA, etc).

    AddLangauge

  6. The following example covers creating a base language (ex. de=German). You can also add dialects (ex. de-AT).

To do that, first create the base language (de) and then create another CSV to cover the dialect (de-AT). This dialect CSV would use “de-AT” as the language name, but would also fill in the ParentLanguage column with “de”. The dialect CSV only needs to have rows for the values it wants to replace. So (as an example) it may only change 5 string values from the base/parent language. If the dialect language does not have a particular string value, AVEVA Recipe Management will fall back to the base language. If that is also missing a string value, it will fall back to the English value.

In this example, the strings for Equipment that are changed are shown on the main screen of AVEVA Recipe Management and various other places from “Equipment” to “Ausrüstung” (German). The following two ResourceName rows are updated as shown in the table below:

    ResourceName

    AlwaysUseDefault

    DefaultValue

    Value

    Language
    Name

    ENTITY_EQUIPMENT

    False

    Equipment

    Ausrüstung

    de

    LBL_EQUIPMENT

    False

    Equipment

    Ausrüstung

    de

NOTE: All other rows can be deleted. If you leave them, you must edit their LanguageName column to specify “de”. Every row in the CSV file needs to specify the same language. In this example, all rows are changed to use “de” even though the string was still English.

  7. Make the necessary changes in the German2.csv file and then save it as a proper .CSV file before importing into the system.

NOTE: Select the “Save As type” value to be a CSV. If Excel prompts, select “Yes” to lose incompatible functionality.

  8. Next, open the saved .CSV file in the notepad editor and then “Save As” with UTF-8 encoded selected. This is due to Excel saving the file in ANSI format.

  9. Now, import the German2. csv file into the AVEVA Recipe Management Server machine. Make sure the German2.csv is located in the bin directory.

    ImportCSV

  10. After the import is complete, make sure that all the AVEVA Recipe Management application browsers are shut down, and then restart IIS.

  11. Open AVEVA Recipe Management application with your credentials and then navigate to Security >Users.

  12. You can now set the language for the user to use German.

  13. Restart the browser and then log in again to AVEVA Recipe Management as the user whose preferred language was set.

  14. After logging in, verify the Equipment label that you updated is now displayed in German (“Ausrüstung).
