Report parameters in the Report Viewer

Report parameters allow you to modify your report dynamically at runtime.

The RtReports server does not store modified report parameters. Each time you generate a report with modified report parameter values, the report is stored as a unique report with all of its associated comments, verifications and approvals.

If the report template has report parameters defined, the Report Parameters pane opens in the top of the Report Viewer page. This pane lists all the report parameters in the order that they are defined in the report template.

You can expand and collapse the Report Parameters pane. The pane is not part of the generated report. Any changes to the report parameter values in the report viewer persist from page to page when scrolling through the report.

Generated reports with report parameters

The first time a report is run in the generator, it is run using the default values of the report parameters defined in the report template. Once the report is displayed in the report viewer, you can change the value of the parameters and run the report again to see the result. For example, if the initial report parameter reports for a unit, you can change it to report for a sub-unit.

For each report parameter displayed in the Report Parameters pane, you have the option to either enter a new value for the report parameter (if the parameter is a single-value parameter) or select a report parameter value from a drop-down list (if the parameter contains a list of values).

RtReports validates all parameter value types against their definition in the RtReports editor before it generates the report. If the entered parameter value does not match the defined type in the report template, RtReports shows an error message at the bottom of the Report Parameters pane and does not generate a report.
