Warning: The User Account specified for connections should have ONLY read-only permissions and the bare minimum privileges for their roles.

Note: We recommend using PI OLEDB 3.2.0.11 or higher with RtBaseline Services. Set the Session ID =-1 in the PI OLEDB connection string to avoid using the same session ID with two different PI OLEDB processes.

  1. Enter a name for the relational database in the Data Source Name field. You cannot change this name once the data source has been saved in the list.

  2. Enter a longer text description in the Description field to help identify this data source, for example, "Server for LIMS data".

  3. Click in the Database Type field and choose PI OLEDB Connection.

  4. Select an appropriate Source Time Zone for the server. This ensures that data from this source can be compared with data from other servers across multiple time zones.

  5. Click Edit Connection String to generate a connection string for this connection.

The Edit Data Source dialog box appears.

  6. On the PI Server and Catalog tab, Select PI3 Server allows you to choose the server name from a list of known servers. You can also specify a User ID, Password, and Initial Catalog name.

  7. On the Advanced tab, specify additional PI OLEDB Connection parameters as necessary.

As you add parameters, the preview window updates with the correct syntax for the selected parameters.

  8. When you are finished, click OK to close the window.

The connection string appears in the Connection String field. You can edit this field manually, if desired.

  9. If your connection string includes the token <PASSWORD>, use the Password field to specify a password. To prevent the password from being appended to the connection string, select the No Password box. When you are satisfied with the connection string, click OK to add it to the Connection String field for the data source.
