Warning: The User Account specified for connections should have ONLY read-only permissions and the bare minimum privileges for their roles.

  1. Enter a name for the relational database in the Data Source Name field. You cannot change this name once the data source has been saved in the list.

  2. Enter a longer text description in the Description field to help identify this data source, for example, "Server for LIMS data".

  3. Click in the Database Type field and choose either Microsoft Jet 4.0 OLE DB Provider (for a Microsoft Access database) or User-specified OLE DB Provider.

  4. Select an appropriate Source Time Zone for the server. This ensures that data from this source can be compared with data from other servers across multiple time zones.

  5. Click inside the Connection String field and enter a connection string. You cannot change this string once the data source has been saved in the list.

Refer to the Microsoft UDL documentation Microsoft Universal Data Link (UDL) Configuration for information on using a UDL file to create and configure a connection string for OLE DB providers.

If your connection string includes the token <PASSWORD>, use the Password field to specify a password. To prevent the password from being appended to the connection string, select the No Password box.
