Relational database data sources

RtBaseline Services supports a variety of relational databases and connectivity options as RtBaseline Services data sources.

To manage connections to relational data sources:

  1. Under Data Sources, choose Relational from the top-level page in the RtBaseline Services Administration site to open the Relational Data Sources page.

On the left side of the page, the Configured Data Sources list shows the relational data sources already configured for RtBaseline Services. Connection Properties appear on the right.

  2. Click New to Add a Relational Data Source Connection (, ), or select a configured data source to view or update connection properties. Click Delete to remove a relational data source.

    Connection Properties

Enter or change connection properties for one server at a time. The following items appear:

    Data Source Name

A name that datasets use to access the relational database through RtBaseline Services. This value cannot be changed once a data source has been saved.

    Description

Descriptive text about the relational database connection being configured.

    Database Type

The type of database, specified in the connection string to the data source, which may be any of the following:

    • ODBC Connection

    • Microsoft Jet 4.0 OLE DB Provider

    • User-specified OLE DB Provider

    • Oracle (Microsoft Provider)

    • PI OLEDB

    • SQL Server

Refer to the Microsoft .NET (, )Add a Relational Data Source Connection (, ) Data Providers (, ) documentation for detailed information on system requirements and supported database versions.

    DSN Name

    (ODBC Connection only)

The name of an imported system DSN accessed through an ODBC connection. Use the Browse button to find and open an ODBC data source that was previously configured and saved in the web server registry.

    Source Time Zone

The time zone in which date and time information is returned from the data source, used to convert date and time data for presentation. The default value is the time zone of the web server.

    Password

Use the Password field to save and supply a password for the connection string. The Password entry is masked, and the field is emptied when the data source is saved.

    No Password

The check box is cleared by default, so that the contents of the Password field are added to the string and stored in the PI Module Database. When selected, the contents of the Password field are ignored.

    Connection String

This field is automatically populated when a System DSN is selected for an ODBC Connection. A Connection Sting must be manually entered for any other Database Type.

To include the contents of the Password field in the connection string, use the token <PASSWORD> as the value for any password= parameter in the connection string. The token is case sensitive.

The password may also be typed directly into the connection string, but is not masked.

    Edit Connection String

Supply additional parameters and security settings for the connection based on database type.

    Test Connection

Test a connection to the currently-selected data source using the Connection String value and user credentials.
