Configure an Oracle connection (Oracle data provider for ​.net)

Warning: The User Account specified for connections should have ONLY read-only permissions and the bare minimum privileges for their roles.

  1. Enter a name for the relational database in the Data Source Name field.This name is for local identification and cannot be changed once saved.

  2. Enter a longer text description in the Description field to help identify this data source, for example, "Server for LIMS data".

  3. Click in the Database Type field and choose Oracle Data Provider for .net..

  4. Select an appropriate Source Time Zone for the server. This ensures that data from this source can be compared with data from other servers across multiple time zones.

  5. Click Edit Connection String to generate a connection string.

    The Edit Data Source dialog box appears.

  6. On the Connection tab, provide the following details:

    • Data Source Enter the Net Service Name, a full Connect Descriptor, or use the recommended Easy Connect format: hostname:port/service_name (e.g., myserver:1521/my.service.name).

    • User ID: Enter the database username.

    • Password: Enter the password for the account.
