Warning: The User Account specified for connections should have ONLY read-only permissions and the bare minimum privileges for their roles.

  1. Enter a name for the relational database in the Data Source Name field. You cannot change this name once the data source has been saved in the list.

  2. Enter a longer text description in the Description field to help identify this data source, for example, "Server for LIMS data".

  3. Click in the Database Type field and choose Oracle (Microsoft Provider).

  4. Select an appropriate Source Time Zone for the server. This ensures that data from this source can be compared with data from other servers across multiple time zones.

  5. Click Edit Connection String to generate a connection string.

The Edit Data Source dialog box appears.

  6. On the Connection tab, specify a Data Source name, User ID, and Password. You can also require Unicode for the database connection.

  7. On the Pooling tab, specify additional parameters as desired.

Refer to the Microsoft documentation (, ) for information on connection string parameters for the Oracle Data Provider. As you add parameters, the preview window updates with the correct syntax for the selected parameters.

  8. When you are finished, click OK to close the window.

The connection string appears in the Connection String field. You can edit this field manually, if desired.

  9. If your connection string includes the token <PASSWORD>, use the Password field to specify a password. To prevent the password from being appended to the connection string, select the No Password box. When you are satisfied with the connection string, click OK to add it to the Connection String field for the data source.
