PI Server requirements

RtReports requires a PI Server version 3.3.361.96 or later if not using Event Frames.

RtReports requires PI Server version 3.4.395.80 (2015 R2 SP1) or later if using Event Frames.

Hardware requirements

The minimum hardware requirements for RtReports server are:

  • Processor - Fastest Possible

  • 2 gigabytes RAM (4 GB recommended)

  • 30 gigabytes hard drive

Operating system requirements

One of the following operating systems is required:

  • Windows 2016

  • Windows 2019

  • Windows 2022

Note: The latest Windows updates must be applied prior to configuring IIS and installing RtReports. Failure to apply all updates first may prevent users from logging into RtReports after it is installed.

RtReports server software requirements

In addition to the Windows operating environment, Microsoft Internet Information Server (IIS) 6.0 greater is required for a successful RtReports installation. There are a few additional caveats:

  • RtReports needs to be installed on its own standalone site. It cannot share a site with other applications (i.e. PI Vision)

  • The IIS 6.0 Scripting Tools role service must be installed on the machine for the RtReports Server installation to succeed. This can be done by navigation to Control Panel > Programs and Features > Turn Windows Features On or Off. This can be done manually or automatically during setup.

  • ASP.NET (included with Microsoft.NET Framework), IIS, and RtReports must be installed on the same machine.

RtReports Install Kit

Products required by the RtReports server computer are included with the installation kit.

The RtReports installation kit detects if the required programs are installed and running as described in the following table and reports its findings before starting the installation process. If an included product is not installed yet, the installation program for that product launches.

When the installations for the related products end, the RtReports installation begins.

RtReports Install Kit components

Purpose

PISDK

PI BatchView

Supports PI Batch data access in application.

PIAFClient

Supports AF data access in application.

PI Trend Control

Infragistics NetAdvantage

Windows domain, workgroups, and Active Directory requirements

RtReports must operate within a Windows domain environment.

Note: RtReports uses local Windows groups and users to control access and authorization for functions within the product. Because domain controller machines do not have local groups, RtReports will not function correctly if installed on a domain controller.

Virus scan exclusions

If you have virus scan running on your RtReports server, you must exclude your wwwroot folder and your target folder before the installing RtReports.

The exclusion must remain in effect while RtReports is running.

Configuring the PI RtReports Remoting Host Services

The PI RtReports Remoting Host Service is the RtReports Server component responsible for printing. This service should be run with an account member of the Administrators group. We recommend logging into the RtReports server with this account beforehand, and restarting PI RtReports Remoting Host service after installation.
