Accurate point cloud measurement can be performed with S3D transparently using the S3D measurement tool.

S3D measurement tool icon

The S3D measurement tool locks onto a point cloud proxy point by clicking and holding the CTRL and SHIFT key over the point cloud object. S3D indicates that a point cloud proxy point has been found before a left mouse click action occurs.
